Club Meeting October 13

Jasmine Holroyd

Jasmine Holroyd is our Rotary Adventures in Citizenship participant whom we sent to Ottawa in May. Jasmine shared her experiences at the event.

This annual event gives a selected group of young Canadians a unique opportunity to come together and better understand our country. Through meetings with political leaders, officials, and experts, our Canadian students learn how our democratic institutions work and about issues affecting Canada and Canadians. By meeting peers from across Canada, they better appreciate the privileges and responsibilities of citizenship.

Meeting Highlights:

Miles' Minute:

Miles shared that our Club will take a ROAD TRIP to the Calgary Navy Museum on October 27th. Details to follow via ClubRunner…

Ciao dall’Italia! (Hello from Italy)

Steve shared excerpts from a letter from Lucy Jackson, our Cochrane student who has settled in nicely, despite the heat, in her new home in Treviso, in the Veneto region of Italy.

She really enjoyed orientation, where she met other exchange students in the Veneto region.

Classes begin at 7:55 am. She has six classes of about an hour each, with two 15-minute breaks per day. School ends at 1:40 pm.

She has already visited Venice and looks forward to visiting Sicily soon. She has made some new friends at school, but finds it challenging because classes are in Italian. She is getting some extra support to help with this.

The (Secret) Marathon

Martin shared background stories about the film “The Secret Marathon,” which will be screened as a fundraiser for Classrooms Without Borders. (See side poster)

A.D.G. FYI

A.D.G. Sue reminded members that the District recently emailed asking whether they would like the District Conference held in the Spring or Fall. Please take some time to share your thoughts.
